Sunday Ajana, head coach of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) handball club, said the club had recruited 13 new players for the upcoming Prudent Energy Handball League.
Ajana told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that the players had been signed for their men’s and women’s teams.
He said while eight players are for the women’s team, known as “D-Defenders”, five players will join the men’s team, known as “The Defenders”.
Both teams will participate in the fifth edition of the league starting in May.
The coach told NAN that the introduction of the new players will help them compete favorably in the league and boost their aspiration for trophies.
“Fortunately, the management have reinforced the team with new legs. This development should put both teams in pole position to win the trophies this season.
“Both teams finished in fifth place each last season, but we want to see them improve in the league this year, and that has required the inclusion of new players,” he said.
Ajana said the club’s management expected his teams to face fierce opposition in the league this year.
“I think the players have the ability to deliver and we’ve given them what they need to be successful,” he said. (NOPE)
