Bosnia & Herzegovina Handball Players Beat Austria, Return to Play for European Championship – Sarajevo Times

Handball players from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) defeated the Austrian national team in Bugojno in the remaining match of the 2nd qualifying round for the European Championship with the result 27:21. In this way, our team managed to return to play for the Euro qualifiers, and it was the successful debut of new coach Ivica Obrvan.

BiH handball players were better at the start of the match. They took the lead with 1-0, the guests equalized, then a run of four goals from our team followed, so the scoreboard was 5-1.

At that moment, the Austrians then wake up and with three tied goals, they come to the equalizer. Then it was played goal after goal until the result of 7: 6 was achieved. After that, Austria again equalized three goals, reversed the result and even got a two-goal advantage.

However, Ivica Obrvan’s players were able to get back into the game so they left at the break with good reactions at the very end of the game with an advantage of 11:10.

Peric was the best of the Bosnia and Herzegovina team in the first half, as he scored three goals, while Haseljic, Vranjes and Malinovic scored two each. In contrast, Bozovic, Frimmel and Hutecek scored three goals each for Austria in the first half.

Once again, our team opened the game better, so the advantage gradually increased to a maximum of four goals (18:14).

Our players continued to play well, so nine minutes from the end of the game they had the biggest advantage of five goals (23:18).

They didn’t lose the advantage until the end of the match, so BiH secured a hugely important win with a convincing six-goal difference, which will mean a lot in the qualifying finals.

The best of the BiH national team was Peric with five goals, while Haseljic, Prce and Vranjes scored four each. Goalkeeper Buric made up to 11 saves. As for the other side, the best was Weber with six goals and Frimmel scored five.

BiH are in second place in Group 2 of the Euro qualifiers with two wins and two losses, or four points. First is certainly Germany with eight points, while third-placed Austria and fourth-placed Estonia have one win, or two points. Two first-place teams go straight to the championship, and our team plays two more games until the end of qualification – against Germany and Austria, writing.
